Our favorite four posts about life in science, not the literature.

Four posts, zero papers, one freehanded mantis.

My take: Somebody in this lab freehanded a mantis into a pumpkin. A mantis. The fly head I could have predicted from a Drosophila lab, but the mantis is pure showing off, and Steve the skeleton is dressed better than half the faculty I know.

My take: Favorable score, funding unknown. I have lived in that hallway for months at a stretch, and my refresh history on eRA Commons from those months would embarrass me in court.

My take: Frame it. “Probably better if it was a gourd” is the only reviewer comment I have ever read that would genuinely improve the work.

My take: Twenty-two years after the defense, the thesis has its first full-time job: being held by a skeleton in safety glasses. Mine is in a drawer, unemployed.

That’s the four. See you tomorrow morning.
